Random Week, Random Post

This is going to be my weirdest blog post ever.  It's been a pretty random week.  You know when you feel as if you are supposed to be somewhere else, or like you are in a parallel universe?  That's sort of how I feel. Its not a "bad" feeling, kind of like not being too sure if you are dreaming or awake.  Every plan I make seems to change, I can't seem to keep a grasp on anything too firmly.  Random things are coming out of the wood-work... positive and not so rad.  But I choose to let this feeling and experience be exciting, instead of incredibly scary!  I have things to be grateful for afterall.  I haven't been lost on a mesa for 12 hours in a while... My car is operating, registered, insured even and I know where my dog is!

Here's some fun music to maybe take you to my state of mind (listen while you read?)...

I keep dreaming about Peru... Our trip was postponed (its my fault, I promise).  I was extremely stoked because  my french freeride gal pal Aurelie Tournier was coming with, but for this year we can once again live vicariously through Smith Optics super-lady Katie Holden.  Keep tabs on Katie this weekend, as she will be competing in the Inca Avalanche.  She posts a lot of rad instagram photos and updates her facebook a ton, so click her linked-out name and check around for greatness on her website.  Tread Travel says we can try again next year.  And try again we will.  I AM NOT A QUITTER!

Here is some greatness from Katie's instagram @KatieHolden...  be inspired!

Because of no Peru, I had to find something to do.  I decided to finally launch my 6-week Mountain Biking Training Program: Yoga, Knowledge, Tea & Skills and cram it in between Sea Otter Classic and our Shine Ladie's Downieville Trip.  The class is geared towards beginners or those who wish to have a bit of all-inclusive-guidance into entering the world of mountain biking.  I listed the class as co-ed, but I think the yoga threw off the dudes and we have a nice group of 4 women.  We meet each Saturday at Auburn Bike Company for four hours, and begin each day with yoga and fresh brewed  Guayaki Yerba Mate.  After we check in with our breath awareness and get all relaxed its time for mountain bike knowledge.  The first week we covered mountain bike anatomy and set-up.  One of our students showed up with a bike anatomy t-shirt, which proves that synchronicity and manifestation powers are still following me closely (its pretty bad when I think about flat tires).

After class (and a nice little siesta), its time for the Auburn Community MTB Ride.  My friend Chris and I started this ride last summer and it has been fun leading and sweeping.  We've meet some great people on the ride and on the trail and have only had to contend with one accident (not our group, we came upon it... in the Culvert!).  We leave the shop at 2pm (or try to) and ride down Stagecoach, Manzanita, and/or Flood to the confluence of the American River.  Sometimes we climb up Clementine and descend Culvert and Confluence trail.  Either way we have the super fun (kidding!) climb back to the shop.  This past weekend we were joined by a total newcomer, and she did fantastic.  We had a couple other ladies with us that like to pretend like they don't know how to mountain bike, but then are total hammers and shredders when it finally comes time to riding.  My favorite type of lady!  We did have one report of a later outbreak of poison oak, so watch out for the leaves of three!

I also coach hour skills sessions at the shop during the week.  I was doing them on Wednesdays but with the Prairie City Races on Wednesdays, it makes more sense to have them on Tuesdays.  So Tuesdays it is, from 4-5pm now thru May 20th.  You can make an appointment through email or call the shop at 530-887-8888
