Staycation Stop #4 - Fairfax

After a little down time back in the Cruz this week, the itch to be on the road hit me again.  Fortunately Mary invited me along on a work trip that will eventually terminate at the Peavine Challenge in Reno, NV this Sunday.

After loading up the two Santa Cruz Nomads, carbon V10 and the entire TIME demo fleet inside and on top of the car, we realized we had more value in bikes with us than the VW Jetta itself.  Mary dropped the demos off at Pegasus Bicycle Works in Danville, which had not only a creative and aesthetically pleasing interior, but also a cheery and amicable staff.

And with work completed for the day we headed to Fairfax in Marin County, CA to ride Tamarancho.  This system of trails boasts tight switchbacks, bridged creek crossings, and beautiful vistas.  After climbing through forests of live oak, manzanitas, and pines, one emerges into clear meadowland spotted with rock outcroppings and a spectacular view of rolling hills and the nearby Mt. Tamalpais.

For the night, we stayed with Mary's boyfriend Peter Verdone who lives just down the street from the Tamarancho trailhead.  Peter is an incredible designer and innovator and I had the occasion to take a peak at some of his work: adjustable skateboard trucks, custom chainguides, and tons of handbuilt frames!

Later in the evening, while perusing photos and stories that are flowing in from the World Cup at Fort William, I found that Sam Hill will be slaying the course on this fine custom pink Specialized Demo.  Additionally he will be sporting a matching kit, and all of his clothing from the race will be auctioned off and the funds raised donated to fighting breast cancer.  Take it off Sam!!
